Show Report - First Bouts Under Their Belts

Friday the 22nd Oct 2021 saw the Cathedral Boxing Club make their debut on the Granite City Boxing Clubs home show in Sunnybank social club. There were 4 boxers, aged between 10 years - 30 years representing our club who have all been training extremely hard since we opened the doors only 6 months ago. All boxers put into practice everything that they have been learning and this is only the start of their boxing journey still lots to learn and experience along the way. We would like to thank Granite city boxing club for inviting us to box on their show and look forward to more in the future.

Fight reports;

Bout 1: Skills bout - 3x1min rounds

Mason Keith Cathedral Vs Joseph Stewart Granite City

Round 1;

Both boxers came out looking to control the centre ring working behind their jab, both landed some good counter punches applying pressure . The first round saw both boxers just trying to find their stride.

Round 2;

Round 2 starter faster with Stewart applying more pressure catching his opponent with a good range of shots. Keith covered well keeping his composure and landed some stiff jabs to counter Stewarts attack.

Round 3;

Keith comes out to control the centre ring landing a great straight right to his opponents jaw. Both boxers showed great movement throughout the rounds using all the ring and some great combinations.

As this was a skills bout no winner is declared, these young boxers showed great potential and we look forward to seeing them as they grow.

Bout 2: Schoolboy 3x1 1/2 min rounds - Sponsored by 45 Commando veterans (Scotland)

Conor Cuthill Cathedral Vs Duncan Stewart Granite city

Round 1;

Stewart came out fast controlling the centre of the ring making Cuthill work hard. Cuthill soon settled and found his rhythm covering well, using the ropes and countering.

Round 2;

Round 2 saw both boxers start well but again Stewart taking the lead. Stewart had Cuthill in the corner but he covered well and managed to side step out the way showing great ring awareness.

Round 3;

Stewart came out his corner fast again trying to take the lead for the final round. Cuthill remained calm and focused. Stewart showed signs or tiring and Cuthill started landing a few more punches keeping the pressure on.

Both boxers showed great maturity and skill for their first bout. The winner by unanimous decision was Duncan Stewart of Granite City.

Bout 3: Schoolboy 3x2min rounds - Sponsored by Mac Access Ltd

Alfie MacDonald Cathedral Vs Kai Stitchell Granite City

Round 1;

Both boxers exploded out their corner landing some great shots. Midway through the round MacDonald received a standing count after Stitchell caught him with a series of punches. MacDonald kept his focus and came straight back at his opponent keeping up the pace. Towards the end of the round both boxers seemed to settle down and picking their shots to their advantage.

Round 2;

Stitchell being the more experienced boxer came out in round 2 controlling the centre and picking his shots. MacDonald continued to move forward and landed some good clean shots making Stitchell really work hard.

Round 3;

MacDonald comes out strong and fast catching Stitchell on the ropes with some great body and head combinations landing a cracking left hand on his opponents jaw. Stitchell showed signs of fatigue but still managing to throw some productive shots, both boxers gave it their all to the final bell showing some great boxing.

The winner by unanimous decision was Kai Stitchell of Granite City

Bout 4: Welterweight 3x2min rounds

Marc Whitton Cathedral Vs Jordan Watson Granite City

Round 1;

Both boxers came out the corner fast and aggressive trying to dominate the ring. Whitton threw a combination of body shots then caught Watson with a large left hand. Watson responded by landing some great strong punches of his own. Whitton then caught Watson square in the jaw with a cracking left hook. Whitton showed some great head movements and rolled under Watsons shots. Both boxers continued to apply pressure trying to gain the upperhand.

Round 2;

Both boxers were more settled this round showing more control and precision. Watson threw a great body shot followed by a strong left hand causing Whitton to step back slightly, Whitton quickly regained his composure and followed with a good combination of his own. The referee stopped Whitton for a standing count after a series of four strong head shots from the home boxer, Whitton however hadn’t shown any signs of these blows affecting him as he was still coming forward. Both boxers continued to throw some strong combinations catching their opponent with some clean shots. The referee stopped the contest after Watson caught Whitton with a large right hook causing Whitton to stumble.

The winner by RSC was Jordan Watson Granite City

Everyone at Cathedral boxing club are extremely proud of our boxers, it takes a lot to step through the ropes and keep your nerve. However no rest as all our boxers were back in the gym on Monday preparing for more up and coming shows. Looking forward to what the future holds.
