Newsletter - July 2021

It’s been a couple of months since the last newsletter and we have a lot to tell!

We have seen unbelievable numbers through the door since opening, more than we could have imagined having only had the doors open for a few months. As numbers continue to rise we are also seeing an increase in those taking out monthly memberships which is hugely beneficial to our club as it provides a fixed income which allows us to budget spending and purchase new equipment!

Over the last 2 months in particular we have managed to upgrade various parts of the premises and bring in new equipment to provide a more versatile and well-rounded facility. This includes new bags, several additions to our weights gym, cardio equipment and most notably, our new boxing ring! We will continue to kit out our facility and thank all of our participants, members and sponsors for your continued support!

Summer camp starts on the 5th of July and we have seen a big uptake already! The camp is split in 2, a Gamer camp which will be more relaxed and bring a lot of fun to all participants. With air hocky, pool, games consoles and a whole host of activities planned, there will be plenty to do and learn over the camp including plenty of boxing training. The Boxer camp is a fight camp designed to take our more athletic members through their paces both in and out of the ring. With the focus on boxing, our coaches will also teach the technical fundamentals, training types, diet and nutrition, how to train effectively and breakdown some of the most successful boxers styles and techniques.

Our technical group is now established and participants are developing into great boxers. The group was created for our advanced & competitive boxers to prepare for competition. The small group now receive 3 and a half hours of concentrated technical coaching per week on top of their normal fitness classes. Dates for competitive bouts are yet to be confirmed however we are currently aiming for November and will keep you all posted!

The club was able to make use of our dedicated medical/treatment room when a Boxing Scotland doctor attended to provide medicals for the clubs future competitors. We were extremely proud to receive outstanding feedback and he has requested to use the facility again in July to complete medicals for all of the boxers in the area who were unable to attend medicals at their own clubs.

Following several requests from local sports clubs we have been running a training camp for Arbroath Lads Club 2009s. Boxing training has provided the team with a much different style of training resulting in a very noticeable difference on the pitch. Despite originally requesting a 6-9 week camp, the team have now decided to continue indefinitely and some players have even decided to join the club!

COVID-19 infection rates have started to creep up again causing some concern to the club. We have continued to keep a stringent cleaning regime however have noticed some complacency starting to set in amongst participants. Please ensure that social distancing is maintained when visiting the club, hand sanitizer is used wherever possible and touching of equipment is kept to a minimum other than that used during your workout. We would also like to re-request the kids are dropped off outside of the building to avoid congestion in reception. Please note it is vital they are accepted into the gym before you leave. Finally please do not attend the gym if you or someone in your household have tested positive, are showing symptoms or you have attended an event with a large crowd (football match/music event/etc.) within the last 7 days.

The club will be closing from the 12th to the 25th inclusive to give the club staff some much needed and well deserved time off! Since conception in December the team have worked tirelessly attending the gym almost every day, to provide classes, maintenance, upgrades and cleaning. Please note that Raise the Bar and Catch 22 will continue to operate as normal throughout this time.

Thanks again to everyone involved with the club; be it sponsors, staff, members, participants or even if you have just liked a post, we appreciate your support and look forward to the continued growth and success of Cathedral Boxing Club!
